Re: nmap -sP -PE -R -v behaves differently with root/un-root

thanks for the response. I know what nmap did when i was not root. The
question was , how come the result from non-root probe seems more
relevant - it found out the servers are up, which is very likely true.

Apologies for my previous response - got sent before I had a chance to finish.

I would say that because the non-root scan was able to do a TCP scan
and not an ICMP one - servers responded. Not all
servers/routers/devices respond to ICMP but will respond to a TCP SYN
to say port 80 (which may be your default port for NMAP to try and
connect to).
