There is no practical evidence that data overwritten just once can be recovered. There are also many technical reasons 
to think that it cannot.

My suggestion is don't buy anything. Download DBAN, when it boots up type AUTONUKE and walk away.

My understanding of it, is that it writes all random data a number of times.  I havent needed to use it in a while, but 
I think it even gives you options on how to wipe, I could be mistaken though since I havent used it in a while now.
