Check out this new browser.Called a 'zero-footprint' browser,it encrypts all temp files created by the browser and doesn't incorporate into the OS.

Tor provides for encryption of content over your local network (and through a few nodes, to be technical) so that local sniffers don't grab your data, and anonymity when it comes to the webservers seeing who is browsing their site.
