Thanks to all for great suggestions. I am playing with vsftpd right now. Took literally two minutes to get running, once I'd worked out the selinux issues. When I mean easy to manage, I need an ftp server so that some of our users can upload download large files to collaborate with people not in our company. So I wanted to know if there is a way to generate passwords/access by non tech users(ie marketing needs to give Graphics Co. X access to upload download). I guess this may need some scripting or perhaps there is some kind of front end that is easy to use. I suppose I want it to be secure so that randoms can't upload/download anything and I will have to work out the directory structure/perms so that it is logical and easy to navigate. -----Original Message----- From: Franck Vervial [mailto:vervial () gmail com] Sent: Friday, February 22, 2008 10:10 AM To: Murda Mcloud Cc: security-basics () securityfocus com Subject: Re: nix based ftp server suggestions Try vsftpd (sorry I don't know exactly what you mean by "easy to manage", so try it or look screenshots and see if it is enough easy). 2008/2/21, Murda Mcloud <murdamcloud () bigpond com>:
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a secure ftp server
with
easy to manage user setup. Needs to be 1. nix based 2. easy user setup(user having ability to change their own passwords
would
be cool) 3. Easy to manage 4. Something people could use their browser to download/upload from. I've seen Rumpus in action but it is mac based. Open source would be best!
