Without meaning to be flippant, the quickest/easiest thing you can do is to perform a fresh install without any patches.
If you have licences (where needed) for the guest operating systems, just create a base image for each one that doesn't include any service packs / patches / kernel or app updates etc and use that as your base snapshot. You can then install applications, add/remove network services etc. When you've broken it, just turn it off and redo from start.
