I personally like SiteScope from HP (previously Mercury).

It is web based, and robust in it's monitoring capabilities in that it
can monitor services, ports, web page content, etc. It may be a bit
overkill if you just want port monitoring, but worth a look anyhow.

Subject: Port Monitoring Software

Dear All,

I have been assigned the task to recommend a freeware / low value
purchase software for our helpdesk to monitor tcp port status & server
availability. Can anyone recommend a simple & efficient product that can
run on Windows XP / 2003. Basic requirements would be -

1. To check the ping status
2. Check whether particular TCP ports are responding 3. Have a dashboard
to give a quick representation 4. Must have an smtp engine to alert via
emails

I am aware of Big Brother, just wanted to check if anyone could vouch
for a better software.

Thanks,
Tinu Koshy

PS: If you know of a Linux based software, please do suggest that too.
