All-In-One Printer/Fax/Copier/Scanner Security

Can anyone provide some feedback or information on protecting sensitive information on a corporate network that has an 
All-In-One Printer/Fax/Copier/Scanner device connected in multiple locations?  Most of the vendors indicate the faxing 
portion of the device has a different set of protocols that will ensure the protection of the network from intrusion.  
I am looking for some information that describes how this happens.
