If it is encrypted with 'Whole disk encryption' not 'file encryption',
then the DATA should be safe, by today's standards.

With the right whole disk encryption, risk of having your local
account compromised is slim to none. Whole disk encryption like'
PointSec' will make any boot disk designed to grab/change account
hashes useless.

You should always reset account passwords that are connected with ANY
type of security breach.

FYI, there are some 'phone home' software solutions that basically
insure that your laptop will be recovered or they will give you $2500
for the lost laptop.

With these services the company will work with law enforcement to
retrieve your laptop, once it is detected.

Hi

I have a laptop policy about where it should/should not be kept, encryption, etc but what happens if one is stolen?
Change the login password? Check AD for any failed login attempts?

Any checklists much appreciated
