Dana,
Use built-in msconfig.exe utility or download Autoruns from
sysinternals.com. Use these to see what you have in startup places.

First place to take a look at is following registry keys:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

If nothing catches the eye you can try disable startup items in startup
folders and in abovementioned registry keys one by one until folder stops
appearing. Just be careful with that and make sure you understand what you
are disabling so you don't mess with some critical system process of
service.

P.S. In case you have Windows 2000 - it does not have msconfig.exe. You can
however copy one from XP box and it will work.

Subject: System 32 folder opens during start up

I'm drawing a blank...

One of the computers that I maintain is giving me a headache. It's a
personal computer, and every-time it boots up, the system32 directory
folder opens up. I've looked in startup folders for all users, and a few
other things, but cannot find the reason.

Any thoughts to turn this off? I suspect it may be in the registry, but
I'm not definitely sure.

regards,

Dana
