HI all, longtime lurker, first post.

You can experiment with Live CD's by mounting the ISO image in a
running Linux environment. Try this:

$ su -
# mkdir -p /mnt/cdimage    (or any name you wish instead of cdimage)
# mount -o loop disk1.iso /mnt/cdimage     (use the path/filename of
the iso image)

Many Live CD's do not behave as well when installed to HD. This lets
you have several available at once. This may not be satisfactory for
running services, but can be a good way to experiment.
