online db security measures

Dear All,

Greetings! We have MS -SQL based database for  our organization, the
db has online interface that our staff members are able to access
their account on db from our remote offices. For security purpose we
have PIX firewall + Anti Virus for viruses and IDS are deployed. Now i
want to know what are the common practices in regard to infrastructure
security(network) in regard to db and application security ?
