Steve, I have to second Don's thoughts on this. While I am biased (I'm a GSEC Advisory Board member), the questions can be quite specific and they cover a lot of ground. GIAC offers a number of different training options and some are less costly than others - you might want to look into some of the mentor-based training, or the study-at-home style as they may save travel costs. As well, attending the training gives you access to pre-exam tests that really do make a difference, and gives you an opportunity to ask questions on the student forums. The staff are very good at answering quickly and clarifying complex sections. Hi Steve, I would personally recommend going with the SANS curriculum as that is what the questions will be based on. It may be expensive, however it will be more then worth it. You can also use them as reference material afterwards. If you try and do it on the cheap you will likely end up paying the price by failing. Right now I have passed the Security + exam, which I read 3 related books for. Also I have the GSEC PRep guide by Mike Chapple and GSEC Security essentials Toolkit by Eric Cole. Also I have some online training from skillsoft. Does anyone recommend any other resources other than the expensive SANS courses or study guides? Thanks in advance Steve
