Hi, Chris. You're right about KeePass. I started using it a couple of months ago, and it's got some pretty forward-thinking features. I also like that there are versions for both my desktop PC and my PocketPC, so I can sync the same password database file and use it wherever I am. This is a good product, and I'd recommend it for anyone who wants secure password storage. If only it supported my iPaq's fingerprint reader... David Davis, Christopher - IT Audits wrote:
Just a quick note for those using Password Safe - You might like the new features introduced into keepass, built off the same core as password safe. KeePass picks up where password safe left off. I think you'll be pleased: http://keepass.sourceforge.net/ Best regards, Christopher -----Original Message----- From: Alexander Bolante [mailto:alexander.bolante () gmail com] Sent: Wednesday, July 06, 2005 12:09 AM To: security-basics () securityfocus com Subject: Re: program to store passwords I use Password Safe, too, and am comfortable with its security and encryption standard. It's default settings aren't best practices, but at least this freeware gives you the room to modify those settings (e.g. clear clipboard upon minimize/exit, lock database upon minimize/exit, etc.) The average password cracking tool could crack say a standard encrypted archive, but it probably wouldn't be easy to crack Password Safe's key db. If anyone has tested any other tools, let me know. Cheers!
