Hi, We give the opportunity to execute a command, with the administrator password inside thru cpau encoded form. We create the .bat command cpau -u station_name\local_admin_name -p passwd -ex "netsh interface ip ...." -enc -file ipchange.encoded then we give an icon which execute cpau -dec -file ipchange.encoded the cpau tool is the best thing I discovered for such needs on http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBO/tip7200/rh7258.htm Bye Jean-Louis MARTEAU @mail : jmarteau () ciments-calcia fr -----Message d'origine----- De : Donald Voss [mailto:voss () albany edu] Envoyé : samedi 20 novembre 2004 13:36 À : W W Cc : security-basics () securityfocus com Objet : Re: Changing IP address as standard user W W wrote:
All, I have looked everyone and have tried many things to allow a standard user the ability to change their IP address in Windows 2000 and have gotten no where. Any ideas? I have a traveling user who cannot use DHCP in some environments because they hand out static IP's. I do not want to give the user Admin rights on their box for obvious reasons. How can I allow them to change their IP address without giving them Admin rights? Thanks for your help. W
There are a few second party multiple IP change utils probably a open source one or two. One then has a icon or status bar tool, it has names like office, home, Boston, ect. not sure if they , the tools have to rights or admin needs to adjust reg rights ,or both, ect. here is one. http://www.pcnet-online.com/downloads/ipswitcherpro.htm Or ..you could upgrade to xp - it allows a alternate ip setting .. not sure of the rights issue. That could probably be adjusted agin by reg rights adjusting behind the scenes. /don -- _____________________________________________________________________ Donald W.
