The Newer versions of IBM Desktops have this fingerprint device to
authenticate
access to the PC but anybody with physical access may easily reset the BIOS
setting,
or install a cdrom or floppy drive to get full-access.

The Worst thing that could happen is somebody getting the Hard Disk Drive
and
install it on another PC to copy or change anything written on it, then
putting it
back without anybody noticing it.

There is just too many risks so your most valuable data must be locked up in
a room
or cabinet somewhere.

just my 2 cents worth:)

By the way, when having physical access to an Apple running MacOS X
everything's so easy. All you need is inserting the MacOS X setup CD
and welcome to wonderland. Even booting into single-user mode if helpful
much often. Thanks to Apple.

Open Firmware built into the Macintosh now permits control of booting from
CD. Can be password protected without third party software. Also I echo
the
comments regarding physical security for any box--if an intruder has
physical access you're hosed regardless of OS.
