PKWARE has a version of their desktop utility that support AES 256-bit encryption and a Lotus Notes plug-in that supports R5. It basically allows you to zip and encrypt the attachments from right within the email interface, plus it can be toggled on and off at will. They also have a free PKZIP unzip/decrypt utility downloadable from their site. Could be worth checking out as an option. For what it's worth.
