Anders,

You are correct. Verisign bought Thawte a few years back and kept them as the "bargin" brand. There are other alternatives, however. You probably want to crack open an un-tinkered with version of IE and see who the default trusted CA's are. You should be able to use any of them.

AFAIR, Thawte IS Verisign. so if you don't trust Verisign, then Thawte
is no better.
I've used Thawte on a couple of occasions, since they are exactly the same,
only cheaper.
