fport is generally a very good tool to find out which application is bound to which port. Download here: http://www.foundstone.com/index.htm?subnav=resources/navigation.htm&subconte nt=/resources/proddesc/fport.htm Usually everything that uses a port should not be active as long as not needed. Have a look at the usual startup locations or use "msconfig.exe" to deactivate automatic starts of applications you don't work with. If you don't have msconfig.exe it can be downloaded from the internet (usually it is shipped with Windows 98 and some other Versions).
