Can anyone explain the difference between SQL and MSDE, specifically with regard to whether or not both were equally susceptible to the recent
"Slammer"
worm? There seems to be much to read about this topic, but none seems to
be
definitive, or even clear.
They are both susceptible. MS MSDE is a "lite" version of MS SQL and is used in the background for a program only. There is no user interaction. MS SQL is the full database server. Here is the definitive: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/ virus/alerts/slammer.asp John Tolmachoff MCSE, CSSA IT Manager, Network Engineer RelianceSoft, Inc.
